How to Preform Self Hypnosis

How To Perform Self Hypnosis by Michael A. McGrath

This is a reference for anyone who wishes to try self hypnosis.

It is important to prepare yourself for self hypnosis by having a goal in mind. Form a statement that sums-up your goal and make it into an affirmation. Use the first person and make the statement express your goal as though it were already a fact. "I am slim" or "I am my ideal weight", are two good examples.

Find a comfortable place to relax. A chair, couch or bed will do. Ensure you will not be disturbed while you perform your self hypnosis. Remain still and start to breathe deeply. Breathe in for 5 seconds and out for 5 seconds.

Now allow your eyes to close as you continue to breathe. Allow your thoughts to go where they want. Just observe them. It is time to relax your body. Begin at your toes and tense the muscles for a few seconds. Release the tension. Move up to your calves tensing and relaxing as before. Continue to perform this self hypnosis relaxation with very body group. Do not forget the muscles in your face.

Once you have completed your self hypnosis relaxation exercises imagine you are on the first step of a winding staircase. Below you are a further 10 steps. As you mentally take each step down count backwards from 10 to 1. After each count internally say the words "down, down, down". So your self hypnosis script would go: "10. Down, down, down", "9. Down, down, down.", etc.

At the bottom of the stairs you find a door leading out of the darkness. This door leads you to a tranquil place that puts you at ease and makes you feel even more relaxed.

Locate a comfortable place in your tranquil place. Mentally recite your affirmation with feeling. Because you are in a state of self hypnosis, or trance, this affirmation will seep into your subconscious mind where it will become a command to be followed.

If you wish you can also form a mental picture that represents your affirmation. Visualize yourself in a situation where your affirmation is already true. Evoke positive emotions and enjoy the experience. It will feel like you are deeply relaxed and very like a day dream. Just go with it. Self hypnosis is very misunderstood and many people think they are not hypnotized when they are.

After about 15 minutes you should leave the self hypnosis state. To do this simply count from 1 to 10 and start to become more aware of your physical surroundings.

That's it, you're done.

It can often be advantageous to use pre-made self hypnosis recordings. Many of these self hypnosis cds are created by professionals and use cutting-edge sound technologies to produce deeper levels of self hypnosis.

So if you find that you are not satisfied with your own attempts at self hypnosis just use a good quality self hypnosis product. This will help you better understand what the self hypnosis state feels like so you can attempt your own session again in the future.
