Wake Up!

By: Bo Beyer-Johnson

Hypnosis is a technique that has life changing capabilities. It has been used to help people kick the habit of smoking, lose weight, deal with stress, improve memory, deal with pain, advance in their career and so much more. In order to harness this power people can go to a professional and have them conduct sessions or you can do it yourself using self hypnosis. With the recent increase in access to different forms of self hypnosis, mainly due to the internet, the art of hypnotizing oneself has been growing in because it offers so many benefits.

When using self hypnosis, one thing that you need to know how to do is how to come out of your “trance.” It is important to note however, that you are never in any danger of not coming out of this state, but that there are just different ways that this can be done. Though it might seem contradictory to common thought, waking up or coming out of the trance is as simple as thinking “wake up” because you are always in complete control. However, having a certain way of coming out of self hypnosis can help the process to go much more smoothly.

It’s vital that you understand even though the term “wake up” is often used, you are not truly asleep when you are hypnotized. Instead, you are in a completely conscious trance-like state. This means that you aware of everything going on around you at all times during the time you are hypnotized. This is why here is no way that you could possibly get struck in a “trance.” In reality, your senses are actually heightened to a new state of awareness.

Tips for Coming out of the Hypnotic State

There are several ways to come out of self hypnosis that can be very useful. For instance, one of the most common ways is to count to five. All you need to do is think or say to yourself that you will wake up feeling refreshed when you reach the number five and start counting very slowly (one, two, three…) until you reach five and your eyes will open.

You can also do other things like using a phrase that you want as your way to come out of hypnosis. What this means is that, you can set a specific time limit on your sessions and tell yourself that you will awake at the end of twenty minutes or thirty minutes and that you will feel refreshed. You can also say at the end of the session you will have a renewed feeling of confidence or that you will be more optimistic. You can use any phrase you like.

Another way to wake yourself up would be to set an alarm and have it wake you up when it’s time for the session to end. You can even tell yourself to wake completely up immediately at the first sign of danger and react responsibly.

What Happens If You Don’t Wake up Immediately

Sometimes your sub-conscious mind may be so relaxed that you don’t want to come out of your “trance,” and as a result you may resist a little at first. This is nothing to worry about so don’t panic if you don’t wake up when you first try to come out of your trance. Simply repeat your wake-up phrase and you will come out of the trance. If you feel a little groggy or dazed when you first wake up, you can repeat the phrase a couple of times to improve how you feel.

It’s possible for a person to actually fall asleep while trying to perform self hypnosis. After all, you are in a very relaxed state. If this happens there is no cause for alarm. You will simply wake up naturally after your nap is finished.
